Biography
21-year-old Cessnock back rower was a try-scorer in Wests' controversial grand final win over Souths in 1952. Schofield first represented Newcastle against the visiting French team in 1951 before coming to Wests for just the one season. Returning to the Hunter Valley club, he represented NSW in 1953 while playing for Cessnock. Four years later, a move to Muswellbrook saw Schofield return to interstate football before winning a place in Australia's World Cup squad. The lightly-framed lock made two appearances in Australia’s undefeated campaign, against Great Britain and France (there was no final played in 1957). The father of Balmain’s Michael Schofield, Don Schofield passed away in April 1999, aged 68.
