I have a good memory of this match as a Saints fan aged fifteen at the time. We'd been to the match at Castleford on the Saturday and seen the teams draw, however on the Monday night replay, with the RLCC Final coming the following Saturday, Castleford put out just about their entire reserve team. I think Saints would have selected their strongest side, however the only two I remember from the Castleford line-up were Knight and Day, which I found amusing. I think it was Glen Knight(also Huddersfield, I think), and, maybe, Terry Day(later of Hull?) That said, the real story, if I recall correctly, was that Saints perhaps under-estimated the line-up against them and were trailing about 12-8 with just a few minutes to go, but then the dam burst and Saints scored thirteen points(including three tries) to go on and win 21-12. I hope you find this interesting and I wonder if anyone else has memories of this match.
