Biography
Wollongong fullback kicked a record eight goals for Country in 1953. Returning to the Sydney club scene with Wests, Russell scored all his side's 9pts (1t, 3g) in the grand final loss to St George in 1958. Russell was the leading point-scorer at the end of premiership rounds in three years; 1957 (3t, 74g - 157pts), 1959 (5t, 90g - 195pts) and 1960 (3t, 83g - 175pts).

As a kid growing up in McMahons Point, I recognised Darcy walking down King George Street towards the Lavender Bay wharf. He asked me if he could join in the game of "Forcings Back" my mates were playing at the time. I of course let him have a kick and on his first punt he kicked the football over the top of a block of flats nearby. I never saw that football again and we never saw Darcy again until next year when I saw him playing for Easts against Nth Sydney in 1949.
