I met Phil McCarroll long after he finished playing when he was a coach and official with the Cabramatta Junior RL club. Lovely bloke with a wealth of stories about the early Parramatta teams as well as about the tricks Vic Hey used to play on opposition half backs.

John, thank you for your kind comments about my father Phil, but a minor correction is needed. Phil was a coach and official with Merrylands Rugby League Club, not Cabramatta. He and Mick Hartas coached Parramatta Presidents Cup teams together in the mid 60’s. Mick was from the Cabramatta club - maybe that’s where the confusion arises.
