    Remember him as Paramatta Marist Brothers most outstanding athlete of the year, 1963.

    Remember him very well as I was the opposite centre in schoolboy rugby league. A tenacious attacking player, he had the better of me of the four occasions I faced him. He was Marist Bros Parramatta , me Marist Bros Eastwood. Let me qualify things - I got the better of him once when we succeeded in defeating the unbeaten Parra team to share equal premierships that year - 1963. I also ran second to him at SCG in 440 yds in interschool (ACC) carnival.
    So I do have reason to remember Gabe Very!!!
    I wish him well.
