1968 was the speedy winger's 'standout' year, topped
the try-scoring count in First Grade.

I have a short poem and signature from Stan, Billy Smith, Graham Langlands and a few other from 09/1968. An afternoon at the Sylvania Waters Hotel.

Stan had absolutely magnificent handwriting but I never knew he was a fellow NQ

One of my all time favourite Dragons along johnny Raper, Reg Gasnier & Billy Smith. Stan brought the crowd to their with every touch of the ball, what a great winger.

Stan was my Flight Commander in the air cadets at Cairns airport in 1965... I remember everyone was so proud of him when he was picked for St George in Sydney... I remember going on bivouac with Stan to Garbutt RAAF base in Townsville .... He was a great bloke and always had encouraging words for the young cadets.... Good on yer Stan

I remember Stan Gorton the year after he left Saints. He was playing A Grade for Milperra Colts in the Canterbury Bankstown juniors. Big man for a winger.

He was so quick, he rarely had to wash his kit

I remember fondly that after he was tackled Stan would pull a comb out of his socks and brush his hair back. Despite playing with legendary players Stan was a fan favourite. A true character of the game

Stan was my first rugby league coach in 1980 , at Fortitude Valleys Club in Brisbane. Under 12's .He was a newsagent at Stafford & i was a paper boy for him before school. We were premiers in 1980 & Stan was ahead of his time. He would show us reel to reel films on a projector in the dressing rooms, all skills with Ron Coote demonstrating how to tackle correctly etc pass the ball both sides of your body , fend both arms etc. He gave me a pile of the old Rugby League World magazines , which i still have today. We were beaten in extra time in the grand final the next year after we moved up a division. Great coach & man Stan.
