Keith Outten, like others of his time, also played for the Army - most likely the School of Artillery in North Head.
During this time, he and other first grade or future first grade players, may also have played for the Australian Army team against other countries, notably England.

I spent 2 years with Keith at North Head Barracks serving 2 years national service. We stayed at Nth Head to played rugby. Keith was a 9 out of 10 player. I was a 2. However along with Bob Fulton and others we won the premiership both years. We were good friends. His injuries from the car accident were far worse than people know He kept it a secret and played the following week. A top bloke.
