Biography
Drummoyne RU centre played in 9 Tests during a brilliant amateur career in 1966-68. Cardy was an exceptional sprinter, winning three successive RU sprint championships, but joined Easts on a massive contract in 1969. He also recommended Wallaby team-mate John Brass to the club as a likely centre partner. Cardy broke his leg in the 1969 pre-season competition and while he did not take the field until the following year his professional career did not reach the heights he scaled in RU.

I saw him in the Waalabies v Cambridge University in the mid 1960s, throwing the ball into the line out side on with an overarm bowling action.

A brilliant wing three-quarter for the Wallabies. cost the Wallabies in a test match against the All Blacks in 1968when through no fault of his own made a great tackle that was deemed to be late. Controversially a penalty try was awarded and NZ won.
Should never ever have turned to league.

I came across this as I was researching who Alan Cardys father was. My brother Wayne died a few years ago and I am reading through his diary’s.
Wayne was in homes as a child and horrific things happened to him in Royalstonuntil 1968 when he went to Katoomba “Weroona”
He talks of the man who saved his life.
The man who instilled trust and love into Wayne’s heart again,
In his diaries Alan’s father helped my brother survive where otherwise I believe he would not have.
I am so grateful my brother had him in his life and the year of 1968 was Wayne’s happiest year where he finally felt safe.
