Biography
Diminutive five-eighth (later a lock forward) learned the game under the guidance of his Riverstone High School coach, former Great Britain Test star Lewis Jones. Olejarnik achieved rapid success with battlers Penrith and was chosen for NSW Colts in 1972. The shoulder injury he suffered in that match was indicative of the problems that would plague his club career but the respect he commanded can be measured by his naming as club captain in 1975, at age 23, following Englishman Mick Stephenson’s decision to stand down.
