    Don or (Louie) as the family called him was my Uncle by marriage. He was a very loving part of the family. I was only 10 when he died and I am now 61 and still a mad Tigers supporter even though I have lived in Melbourne for 40 years. I still think of him often with so much pride. He was too young and left a young family with empty hearts but he loved the game. GO TIGERS.

    Donny Amos came from Newtown and was the son of “ Pop” Amos and we played chasing around the streets and access lanes, including Ken Hoveling, Pat Brown, Norm Bartlett & Ken McLean, his loss was never forgotten by those who knew him.

    I had the pleasure as a young 7 & 8 year old to travel to the Balmain games with Don (Louis) Amos. He was a great man wonderful family man and was really coming along as a Rugby League prop though only young. I always speak with pride about Louis and will always remember him. His sudden death was a tragedy and a very traumatic time for the whole family.

    I was lying on my bed in a Brisbane hotel room listening to this game and because of the concern coming from the commentator, can remember it like it was yesterday. It was a terrible afternoon.

    Donny Amos was my cousin. His mother was my father’s sister. Although there was a huge age difference I remember him and his wife and sons. I was closer in age to his boys than him. My father was very proud of him and used to take me and my younger brother to watch him play. I remember sitting with Aunty Alma and Uncle Pop right on the fence line and cheering him on. I guess he was my introduction to the game of rugby league. Sadly I never saw his wife and boys after he died but Aunty Alma proudly talked about them all the time.
