Had the rare privilege of playing with this great champion of country football at Gundagai in '74 (or '75) from memory. Words like mercurial or genius would not suffice to describe this bloke. He was a tough, tenacious and untiring team player of enormous talent and probably unfulfilled potential. In defense he would zoom past you to make a try saving tackle that left his opponent knowing his progress had been well and truly halted! One day after he had played country firsts centres with Mick Cronin, we played a Sunday game (against a strong Tumut side I think) at Anzac Park Gundagai. I remember him making a bust from deep in our own quarter, side-stepping and fending off several players to set up a length of the field try. Peter Kennedy was a truly remarkable footballer.

Having been a player and spectator in group x1 for 50 years I would have to say that Peter Kennedy was easily the best I had the pleasure of playing against and watching. A truly brilliant footballer. Kennedy first. daylight second.

A truly exceptional player - class - his abilities should have seen a much higher representative level - than is shown - class player in all respects - great bloke as well. Definitely a Hall of Fame country rugby league player.

Played with Peter Kennedy at Gundagai. Peter came to Gundagai in 1974 as a player & 1975 was appointed Capt/Coach. Unbelievable player with all the skills (tough, brilliant in defence & attack). The following day after Country beat a near test strength side19-9 at the SCG, I had the pleasure of being his centre partner when the Gundagai Tigers defeated defeated Tumut Blues 21-16 at Anzac Park Gundagai.. Best player I have ever played with, & Mick Cronin always speaks very
highly of Peter.????????

Was a kid at Anzac park the week after King Kennedy repd Country. Team lined up behind Peter to run on. Peter got to the middle - no one behind him. Enormous tribute from a packed crowd.

I had the very great privilege of knowing Peter Kennedy as a good and very humble friend, as well as playing beside him in Forbes. Despite his kind and gentle nature, on the field he was gifted with speed, strength and skill that put him in a class above. Thanks to Peter and our tireless and inspiring half-back, Mervyn Cain also with a strong link to Euabalong, all of Forbes celebrated for a week when their team won the Grand Final at Dubbo. Even the Forbes reserve grade side did the area proud by being very unlucky to narrowly lose their Grand Final as the introduction game to the first grade victory by Forbes.
I write this as a tribute to Peter Kennedy, Mervyn Cain and all their team-mates and supporters.

"they call him the King and the football field's his kingdom the players are his subjects and he treats them all the same from a little bush shack at Euabalong to the SCG in Sydney, he's come a long long way. And we say glory ,glory Peter Kennedy glory glory Peter Kennedy he's come a long long way......"
A verse made up and sang by the legendary Billy Morton from Gundagai.

Grew up in Forbes watching Peter Kennedy play, best player I have seen. Tough as nails. You hear the crunch all over Spooner Oval when he hit someone in defence and could run like the wind.
Also worked with him for a short time at meatworks loadout. I was only young and this oaf bully was harassing me. Peter saw it and had a very short sharp word with him, he never came near me again.
Champion footballer and bloke, his bro Timmy was also a great bloke.
