Biography
Talented, ball-playing forward made his mark with the Roosters from the interchange bench in the club’s 14-6 loss to Brisbane in the 2000 grand final. Solomona, who represented Samoa in the 2000 World Cup, signed with P’matta in 2001 when it appeared that the Roosters were bringing Test forward Steve Menzies to the club (they didn’t.) He made his Test debut for NZ in the one-off Test against Australia in July before recording his second grand final loss, the 30-24 defeat by Newcastle, in which he was again used as an impact player from the bench. After appearing in six Tests for the Kiwis in 2001-02, his career lost momentum the following year and he joined English club Wakefield Trinity in 2004. Solomona was an interchange player in NZ’s stunning 24-0 win over Australia in the final of the 2005 Tri-Nations competition.
