Biography
The brother of Geoff Bugden also started his career with Newtown before finding success with former coach Warren Ryan at C’bury in the mid-1980s. Mark Bugden ousted regular club hooker Billy Johnstone in 1984 and was the hero of the club's 6-4 grand final win over P’matta when he scored a fine solo try from dummy half. In 1985 he was suspended for 14 weeks for his high tackle on Steve Rogers (which resulted in litigation) and could not regain his first grade spot for the 1985 grand final. Bugden was back as the Bulldogs’ number one hooker in 1986 and played against his brother Geoff in the 4-2 grand final loss to P’matta. He later signed with the Eels but the move was not a success. Bugden later played in several Police Services team with some distinction.
