Biography
Lean centre/winger went on to captain Wests from the flank during the club's infamous 'fibro' era under Roy Masters. Boland was a graduate of Sydney’s University Cup competition and joined St George in 1974, winning a premiership with the club's U'23s team. He decided to travel overseas in 1975 and signed with the Tigers on his return. Boland was a member of the Tigers’ first grade line-up that captured the Amco Cup final in 1976 but after winning a Reserve Grade premiership in 1978 he shifted to Wests. Boland led the Magpies to the preliminary final in 1980 but the club was decimated by the defection of its star players to rival clubs during the ensuing years. He later played in Brisbane and went on to become a top league commentator with the ABC's Saturday League coverage and FoxSports.
