Biography

19-year-old Wauchope product came to Easts with Ian Schubert in 1975 but was relegated to the Roosters' junior league (Paddington Colts) because of the 13 import rule. A talented centre/five-eighth, Laurie captained Easts' President's Cup before being finally graded in 1976. With Souths in 1980, he was rewarded after a tremendous season with his naming as the inaugural 'Dally M' Player of the Year. After returning to Easts where he played for two more seasons, he saw out the remainder of his career back at Wauchope.

    In 1980 when playing for South Sydney in Rugby League Week.Laurie got a 10.He got a 10 after South Sydneys 26-12 win over St George at Kogarah Oval on March 29.

    In 1983 ,he Captain-Coached Wauchope to a premiership in Group 3.

    When playing for Souths he was awarded a brand new Volvo.....What was the award for ?

    can remember when jack gibson tossed a coin between rocky and shoey to go to grade.rocky came to the colts.in is first game he got coat hangered, while on the ground he looked up and said why did that bloke do that for i have only tackled him around the legs.i said welcome to easts juniors a bit different to country footy,but dont worry every one of your team mates will get square during the game.he became a great football playewr thanks to me as he had to do his tackle then get up quick and do mine

    Rocky was pencilled in as the replacement for Alan Thompson at 5/8 in the test team. Someone switched Wally Lewis to 5/8 and Rocky never got a look in. Bad timing.

    Played for Maitland and Inverell as well as Wauchope after leaving Sydney.
