Biography

Blacktown junior burst onto the first grade scene in 1977 as a 19-year-old fullback. For the next five seasons, Kevin Dann was a shining light in a club that stumbled from one disaster to another. A crowd favourite and a prolific point-scorer, he missed an opportunity for Australian Test selection in 1980 after a personally unhappy match for NSW (Garry Dowling toured NZ instead). Dann prematurely retired in 1983 but returned in 1984 under Tim Sheens' coaching but played in only one more first grade match.

Until the appearance of Greg Alexander, it was Kevin Dann that we supporters remembered as the player that could score a try when nothing was happening. He was a shining light of hope for us that Penrith could climb its way up the table.

I coached Kevin at Blacktown Boys High when we won the Buckley Shield competition. Kelvin was one of the most talented athletes I ever had the fortune of encountering in my 40 years of teaching and coaching. Steven Sadokierski

A wonderful talent when Penrith needed a star in the early days, to play so well in a team at the bottom of the table was a testament to his talent

Kevin lived in the house behind me back in the days when you washed your own jersey, most Mondays his 1 footy jumper would be on the line drying . I often thought of jumping the fence and nicking it but getting caught would not have gone down well with Kevin .

I’m probably the person that has played the most games with Kevin. And was always in awe of the talent that he possessed. We didn’t lose many games , but when we were behind you could rely on him to get us the win! A phenomenal footballer and best mate!! I miss him a lot.
