Biography
The departure of Queensland Test hooker John Lang from Easts in 1980 left the way for Kurri Kurri and 1978-80 Country rep Jeff Masterman to take the place as No.1 rake at the club but few could have predicted the heights he would scale in 1981. Masterman was selected for NSW in the two ‘traditional’ interstate matches played that year. He then played in both Tests against France that year - the same year he earned the 'Dally M' Rookie of the Year and Hooker of the Year awards. Although Masterman continued his career with Easts in the early 1980s, he did not play another game for NSW or Australia.

In 1981 Masterman was Dally M Hooker of the Year and also Dally M Rookie Of The Year.
