"Cod" Miller was my Grandfather and was the loveliest unassuming man, which I suppose is very hard to believe when you hear all the stories about him when he was on the pitch! He was quite rightly very proud of what he had achived in his career although he never boasted. The calibre of players has changed, when they say they used to be "real" men, yes they were. Would today's players carry on the match with a broken collar bone? No, because they are worth too much money. This game used to be played for the love of it...

I was a distant relative and my mum ( a Griffiths) told me about him bringing a KOALA bear back from tour for his Daughter. I met him just once at a game at Leigh. I remember looking across his shoulders from the back, he was MASSIVE!!!I wish I had known him more, but remember him complaining that Leigh didn't have any forwards! By his standards , they probably didn't !!!!!
