Biography
Within a year of making his first grade debut for Wollongong in 1947, Kevin Schubert had ascended to be the number one hooker position and was touring with the Kangaroos. A NSW rep in lifesaving, the 20-year-old played for Southern Districts, Country, NSW and Australia against NZ in 1948. On the tour of England and France he played in four Tests and 18 other matches. After playing against NZ in 1949 Schubert signed with Manly and played his part in Australia's historic Ashes victory over Great Britain in the Third Test in 1950. He was captain in Manly's maiden grand final in 1951 and went on to play in further Tests against France (1951) and NZ (1952) before making his second Kangaroo tour in 1952-53. Schubert played his 19th and last Test on that tour before being succeeded as Test rake by Ken Kearney. He prematurely retired in 1955 but returned to the Sea Eagles after a year's sabbatical.
