Biography
Newcastle five-eighth came from relative obscurity to play for NSW and snare the pivot position in the First Test against Great Britain in 1966. Australia lost the match 17-13 and despite scoring a belated try, Banks was replaced by Brisbane's John Gleeson for the remaining Tests in the series (which Australia won). Banks later played for Norths.

Gary Banks was one of several Australia players - along with Angelo Crema & Bill Bradstreet - who played their one & only test in the First Test against Gt Britain in 1966 when Australia was soundly beaten by the Brits.

I was lucky to play with Gary at south as half back he had great hands made me look good,good memories.
