At now 54 years of age and having played the game at schoolboy, city, and amateur level therefore being an avid rugby league fan for all of my life I can in my opinion state that Mick "Shoey" Shoebottom was amongst the best I have ever had the privilege to watch, he was a player who without doubt had it all, he was a gutsy hard and fair individual who shirked nothing, bristled with natural ability, pace and footballing skill and who "turned up" and gave 110% with a guarantee in every game, outside of the likes of "Immortal" Bobby Fulton I have never seen anything like him. To see his career cut short by injury was an absolute tradegy for all of those who had the privilege to watch him. "Shoey" sadly plucked away from us all will never be forgotten.

    Keith.
