Biography
NSW rep forward had a varied career before bringing direction to C’bury in his role as club president. 'Punchy' Nelson's early playing career was punctuated by seasons at Wollongong (1952) and Gilgandra (1956) before suffering a badly broken jaw playing for his State in 1960. He had two seasons with Newtown before his final season with Wollongong in 1964. As C’bury Club President, Nelson oversaw the successful 1980s, which yielded four premierships, and together with club secretary Peter Moore and a stable committee, they set the future direction for the club into the 1990s by aligning with the Super League organisation. Nelson weathered the storm created by the club’s salary cap breeches in 2002 by acting quickly and decisively to restore confidence and credibility back to the club.
