Biography
Former Queensland RU halfback played in 6 Tests for the Wallabies between 1985 and 1988 but then moved to Ireland, where he represented that country in 11 Tests, before switching codes to play with Balmain. With former Wallabies coach Alan Jones at the helm, Smith ousted veteran Kiwi Test star Gary Freeman at halfback but club politics aside, he quickly proved a capable tactical kicker and goal-kicker. In 1992 Smith was chosen for City Origin but broke his collarbone in the match. He joined Easts in 1993 but when dropped to reserve grade midway through the following season, retired to pursue his career in advertising with the John Singleton Company.
