Biography
A tragic figure in the history of the game, Ray Morris died on the way to England with the 1933-34 Kangaroos. A talented winger/centre who played for Wests in the first grand final ever played (defeating St George 27-2 in 1930) he first represented NSW in 1931-32. Morris joined University in 1933 and after representing NSW again, was chosen to tour with the 1933-34 Kangaroos. Morris was the only player to be selected in an Australian rep side while playing for the University club but in a sad postscript to this honour, he never got the chance to see England or play for Australia. On the long journey to England, Morris developed an eardrum infection and after being hospitalised in Malta, died in September after his team-mates had sailed on to England.
