Biography

Former All Black centre achieved phenomenal success in his first season of rugby league in 1995. Timu represented NZ in 26 RU Tests from 1989-94 but turned his back on World Cup selection with the All Blacks to join C’bury in 1995. The classy centre proved his adaptability with the Bulldogs in a season that culminated in the upset 17-4 win over Manly in the grand final (this becoming the first former ‘All Black’ to play in a winning rugby league grand final). Timu became a dual international when he was called into the NZ team for the second and third Tests against Australia and though selected in Kiwis’ World Cup squad at year’s end he did not play in a match because of injury. In the 1997 Super League season Timu represented NZ in the ANZac Test and was a reserve in the return Test in September. An integral member of the C’bury team during three turbulent seasons he left the club to play for the London Broncos following the reunification of the game in 1998.
