The name Sammy was a name he choose as a boxer due to the fact when he started promoters said they never head of a boxer called Percy.
Sammy's career was cut short by a motorcycle accident which he sustained a fractured skull and pelvis and was hospitalised for many months following his recovery he went into coaching and coached Easts Presidents Cup and 3rd grade teams.
Was elected a Life Member of the Eastern Suburbs club in 1952.
