Biography

The son of former Easts' secretary Jim Hunt (and a former Roosters ballboy) this P’matta junior was a member of the unbeaten Australian Schoolboys in 1979. In 1982, the robust winger took his place in the Eel's champion backline of Cronin, Ella, Kenny, Grothe and Sterling in the club’s second grand final win. Injury saw him miss the club's 1983 grand final win but he was back on board the next year when the Eels went down to C’bury, 6-4. Hunt played for NSW in 1983, and in England with Leeds in 1984-85, and was one of the star signings of the newly formed G’Coast club in 1988.

Your Say

  • Paul

In 1980 Neil was rated one of the top 10 fullbacks in the comp by RLW despite playing most of that season in reserve grade behind Garry Dowling (who was also rated in the top 10).

An example of the strong-running burly wingers who have graced the annals of rugby league games, Neil was an exciting player in both attack and defence.
