Gordon originally played his junior football with Tech Old Boys and then went into grade with Thirroul. He was a Towradgi boy and was supposed to play grade with Corrimal due to residential rule, however he appealed to the CRL and was granted permission to play with Thirroul coached by Jack Rayner. After retiring he played rep touch football for several years in Country and State championships. He was a great athlete and he and his brother Alex were good boxers.
