Biography
Cronulla junior (captain of the club's President's Cup team) was graded by St George in 1966. Maguire returned to Cronulla soon after and grafted a reputation as a tireless worker in defence and a more than capable ball-player. After playing in the Sharks' first grand final (1973), he took on the role of captain-coach of Corrimal in the I’warra competition in 1976. Maguire was lured back to Sydney for one final season with P’matta in 1977, winning a reserve grade grand final before retiring to take on lower grade coaching with the Cronulla club.

He used to throw chalk at me when I talked in class haha

John Maguire was a strong defender and a very good ball player. His attacking work on the blind side took pressure off Tommy Bishop on the open and allowed Bishop that extra time to weave his magic.
