Biography

Cronulla hooker, originally from Gunnedah, earned the honour of being the club's first Australian representative player in 1970. Selected in the World Cup squad that went to England Ron Turner was a member of the Australian team that upset favourites Great Britain in the final at Leeds. He was later a part of the historic Cronulla team that lost to Manly in another ferocious clash, the 1973 grand final. The following year he made his only Test appearance when recalled to the Australian side (after a great game for NSW against the Lions) and played in the deciding Test of the 1974 Ashes series, which Australia won 22-18.

Only a broken leg stopped him touring NZ with the Kangaroos in 1971. Copped an absolute belting in 1970 World Cup final but played a great game.

    Great player.
    Even better bloke.
For many years we caught up in the mornings at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast.
Ronny was there almost every day.

Played for Nerang after leaving Sydney along with a former Cronulla teammate Chris Wellman.
