Biography

Former Easts pivot played with Tumut in 1961 where he gained selection for NSW in two interstate matches. Beaven then toured NZ with the Australian team but although he appeared in four minor matches (scoring 1 try) he did not appear in a Test match. Beaven resumed his Sydney career with C’bury the following year.

    Ray is my father we spell our surname Beaven
    Ray returned to Tumut in 1963 and played out the rest of his career there except for a 2yrs stint as captain coach of Turvey Park in Wagga Wagga in the late 1960s he retired in 1975

    A player of untapped talent who was brilliant at evading an opponent and scoring tries one of the best i have witnessed on par with the brilliant John Hobby
    His defence was also flawless a complete footballer with great courage ask any Tumut person

    Ray's correct name is Raymond John Beaven, I should know I'm his son
