Match Notes
Clarrie Jeffreys was caretaker coach for Newtown while Harry Bath was in New Zealand as coach of the Australian team.
Laurie Fagan again withdrew from the Penrith side due to an ongoing hamstring injury with Neil Bailey coming into the team.
Dave Barsley & Joe Vasta dropped out of a 15 man line to make way for new buys Lionel Williamson & Englishman Charlie Renilson. Newtown agreed to pay a $7,000 transfer fee for Williamson to the Innisfail club in Queensland which Canterbury had only a week before refused to pay and tried to have reduced.
Note: Forward packs are listed in reverse order.
